About Kawartha Child Care Services

Kawartha Child Care Services is a non-profit charitable corporation dedicated to providing excellence in early learning and care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years.

Established in 1981, we have grown from a small home child care program in Peterborough City and County to a multi program corporation with 19 licensed programs caring for over 700 children daily in the City of Kawartha Lakes, the County and City of Peterborough and the Region of Durham. Our programs include full day child care, nursery school, and before and after school programs. Each program is unique with hours of service ranging from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. Our home child care program offers flexible hours of care, depending on the individual care provider.

Our Board of Directors

A Board of 11 Directors leads Kawartha Child Care Services offering expertise in parenting, business management, financial management, real estate and property management, technology, health care, volunteer management and community development. The Board of Directors operates as a policy board with support from three standing committees - Executive, Board Development and Membership, and Corporate Affairs. The board meets monthly except in December and July. Our Annual meeting, held in April of each year is open to the public with special invitation being extended to all members of the corporation.

We have implemented an Emergent Curriculum across our organization with a strong emphasis on developmentally appropriate environments that reflect our belief in children as competent learners. In our programs you will see the daily experiences documented throughout the playroom as evidence of the educators' careful observations of the children's growth and development. Relationships with the environment, parents and community are emphasized.

Each of our full day programs has a nutritional expert who prepares delicious, wholesome meals and snacks for our children. Our nutritional guidelines ensure that we are serving the healthiest food choices to help our children be the best they can be.
